In the framework of the Erasmus +ΚΑ121  2022 “ How Europe will save the world” the 3rd High School of Larissa visited the Oberschule Papenteich school of GrobSchwulper, Germany, together with delegations from Italy, Portugal and France.

The aim of the project was to inform and raise awareness of the students about the Global Sustainable Development Goals with the vision to become active citizens, who will take action and adopt life attitudes that will meet these goals and lead to a change in our behaviour towards the planet.

The students from the participating countries discussed with each other, exchanged views, expressed their concerns and presented the product of their work. The presentations of all the groups were very useful and meaningful not only for the information they gleaned but especially for the ways in which the regions from which the students came undertake and organize actions to achieve the individual objectives of the programme.

Each country team presented their work on one of the sustainable development goals they had prepared. Our school’s team focused on Goal 13, the climate action. It analyzed the impact of climate change on our lives and focused on what we can do to reverse the current situation. He then referred to the actions and initiatives that our school has taken and the actions and initiatives that our school has undertaken.

In the following days the children had the opportunity to visit Brunswick as well as Goslar, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and to live dreamy moments in the beautiful Christmas village, where they had the chance to taste local delicacies to the sound of festive music and the falling snow made the scenery even more magical. Getting to know the customs and habits of other peoples and comparing them with their own brings children closer together and blurs any differences.

The pupils, divided into international groups, participated in a series of workshops related to the Erasmus theme. They discussed what the global priorities for 2030 should be to address economic, social and environmental problems through sustainable development and were encouraged to create actions and initiatives aimed at this goal. In particular, they took part in a workshop to learn methods for renewing old materials and creating new products from them. They also participated in a “cookies” workshop to learn about German traditional baking combined with Christmas traditions and had fun while practising their English.

A visit to the Rammelsberg mines, the first industrial plant in Germany to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was an opportunity to learn about the country’s history and culture.

On the last day, the students visited Autostadt WOB and participated in the presentation “Thinking about tomorrow today” and worked in international groups on the topic “Design thinking”. This  specific approach is used to address the topical issue of sustainability.

Finally, at an event organized by the host school in collaboration with the parents, the students presented the results of their activities and all had fun tasting the food brought by the parents.

Our mission went on its way back carrying in its luggage beautiful images and impressions that were indelibly engraved in our memory and full of anticipation for the next mobility.
